One of the best things about this recipe is that it can also be made completely to your preference. Vegetarian? Add veggies and omit the meat. Dairy free? Use vegan cheese or just omit cheese all together. You can also add in these super yummy homemade sun-dried tomatoes.

This has become one of our family’s favorite meals and I hope that your family loves it just as much as we do! Thank you so much for the love and support, check out our blog for other great recipes and our Amazon Storefront for a list of our favorite kitchen goodies.

Easy and Affordable Stromboli

Course: Dinner, Main Course
Cuisine: American, Dairy Free Options, Egg Free, Italian, Vegan Options, Vegetarian Options
Keyword: Pizza, Stromboli, Allergy Friendly, Vegan Options, Quick Dinner, Easy Dinner, Family Friendly
Servings: 6
Cost: $20

Ingredients

  • 2 Fresh Pizza Dough
  • 1 jar Pizza Sauce or Marinara of your choice
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 8 tbsp Stick Butter This equals one stick
  • Parmesean Cheese
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Parsley
  • Pepperoni About half a bag more or less depending on your preferences.
  • Salami As much as your heart desires
  • Ham A few slices
  • Salt To taste

Instructions

  • First you'll want to preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  • Open up your first pizza dough leaving the other in the fridge to stay cold. Start working through the dough with your hands to stretch it out. It takes a minute or two but you should get it to stretch quite a bit. If it's too warm it may start to tear, if it does you should be able to pinch it back together.
  • When the dough is stretched out you will want to lay it on your greased baking sheet and continue to work it until it's about 1/2 inch thick and shape it into a rectangle the best you can. This doesn't have to look perfect so no worries.
  • Once your dough is shaped like a rectangle or even an oval it's time to add your pizza sauce. I purchased the standard pizza sauce from Aldi but any marinara type sauce should work just fine. Create a light layer with sauce all the way to the edges.
  • Next you will add a layer of mozzarella cheese and parmesean cheese over the top of the pizza sauce.
  • Once you have the layer of cheese you can add any toppings you'd like. We used pepperoni, salami, and ham. Feel free to add other meat, veggies, or just keep it cheese if you'd like.
  • This step gets a little messy. You'll want to start on the shorter end of the rectangle and start rolling the pizza tightly until you get to the end. You'll need to use both hands and will have to push some of the ingredients back inside if they slip out.
  • Once it's rolled up you will want to take both ends and work them under the roll so it's sealed. This should also be a fairly easy, although messy step.
  • If you are making another stromboli roll you will repeat the steps again so you have them both on the same baking sheet.
  • Once you are done rolling your stromboli rolls you will want to create a few slits in the top of each roll. I created 4 slits, but feel free to do more or less depending on how long your rolls came out.
  • Melt butter and add garlic powder, more parmesean, and parsley to the mixture. Mix well in the melted butter. You will then take the butter mixture and spread half of it over the top of both rolls. Make sure you reserve about half for the last step.
  • Place the baking sheet in the 350 degree oven and bake for 20 minutes. This step may be longer depending on how thick your crust is and baking conditions. I personally will check periodically to make sure it's not over cooking. You'll have to use your judgement here but it will be finished when it has a nice golden color.
  • Once fully cooked pull the tray out of the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Create slices that are 2-4 inches thick, depending on who you are serving and how large you want the servings.
  • Plate and top with more of your butter mixture.
  • Enjoy!
